A Little Place Called Alpo’s

By now, most of the people in the surrounding areas know all about a little dancehall named Alpo’s, but that was not always the case. In May of 2013, Alpo’s had its very first show, and music has been pouring out of the barn ever since. Some of the initial patrons remember the early days of Alpo’s when it was a humble quonset barn with tables and chairs strategically placed to allow enough room for a dance floor, and old church pews that proudly lined the sides of the walls. Some of Alpo’s earliest supporters remember a crowd of less than 50 people as they witnessed the “Alpo’s family” nervously watch the gate to see if any cars were pulling in. In those days, it was uncertain if Alpo’s would have enough of a crowd to even pay for the cost of the bands for the night. Having a music venue in the middle of nowhere surrounded by corn fields and tractors is not a typical scenario, but “only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible” (Albert Einstein). Now, more than a decade later, Alpo’s has become a tradition for so many music lovers in the area. People have gathered together with old friends and new, dancing beneath the diamonds in the sky that hang over Alpo’s barn. The enchanting mystery of this “almost famous” dancehall has made Alpo’s well-known in the community. I guess it is true that “an overnight success is ten years in the making” (Tom Clancy). There is something magical about music that brings people together, and when it hits you, you feel no pain. Alpo’s colors the sky with memories under the neon glow of the moon as the sound of Texas Country music floats effortlessly through the air. “Music is the art of prophets and the gift of God” (Martin Luther), and Alpo’s knows this all too well. Alpo’s started out as a relatively unknown venue in West Camp, but now, patrons can’t wait to be reunited within the comforting walls of music and friendship that make Alpo’s so special. So, join us for another great season and “sing like no one’s listening, love like you’ve never been hurt, dance like nobody’s watching, and live like it’s heaven on earth” (Mark Twain).
